St. Agnes Academy Head of School Sr. Jane Meyer, O.P. followed through on a promise on Sunday, Feb. 14 by taking to the skies in support of her students' and their hard work for Haiti relief.
SAA's hard-working students organized bake sales, matball tournaments, garage sales, and car washes; put together a talent show (Harmonies for Haiti); hosted an art show at Treebeard's downtown; and sold dozens of t-shirts to support the people of Haiti. The final total of their efforts culminated in $88,684 for SAA's Hope for Haiti campaign. All donations were directed to Catholic Relief Services.
Sr. Jane committed to take her first skydive if St. Agnes raised at least $25,000. "My message is that together we can do it," she said. "We have a responsibility to help the world."
Sr. Jane completed her dive, landing on both feet and upright, with a group of faculty, staff, parents, students and alumnae cheering her on. "I felt so close to God. I kept thinking about the people in Haiti and all that they are going through," she said. "I always challenge our students to stretch themselves; to do more than they think they can. And that is what I did on Sunday."
