  About Athletics

Being in the St. Agnes Academy Athletics program just might be one of the most rewarding experiences of a student's time at SAA. We offer 10 sports during 3 seasons and have over 300 students involved in the program. Athletes are given an equal and fair workout to try and compete in our program. We have won more than 70 state titles and compete with the top schools in the state of Texas. Welcome to the St. Agnes athletics program.

St. Agnes Academy is affiliated with Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).  TAPPS offers a district schedule with a play-off format similar in nature to UIL public institutions.  State Championships are acknowledged in a myriad of sports including cross country, volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, golf, tennis, track and softball.

Water polo is run by an independent organization, THSWPCA (TX High School Water Polo Coaches Association), and competes towards state play-off competition with public schools. Junior Varsity and Varsity teams are fielded in eight sports, with Volleyball and Basketball also offering a third freshmen-only team.  An Athletic Fee of $75 is required per athletic participant per sport.  We are very proud of our student-athletes who successfully combine the challenges of athletics and academia with equal enthusiasm.

 Practices

All sports conduct practices each day of the week in which a team is not competing in a game, match, or meet.  This generally constitutes three practices per week along with two competitions, or, as in track and cross country, practice is held throughout the week with competitions on Saturdays.  Practices are primarily after school, and most are two hours in length.  The Water Polo and Swim teams train at Strake Jesuit pool. Practices typically start around 5, after Strake Jesuit practices, if not early mornings depending on the availability of the pool.

Golf, Lacrosse and Tennis teams train at various off campus sites. Our home golf course is undetermined for 2010-11 season and the tennis team works out at Lee LeClear Tennis Center.

The Cross Country team trains on campus as well as Memorial Park, Allen Parkway, and other running venues.  All other sports practice on campus or in conjunction with Strake Jesuit.  Coaches transport team members to and from practice and competition sites.

Fall Season

The following sports teams are in competition during the fall season: Cross Country, Volleyball, and Water Polo

Tryouts for Cross Country, Volleyball, and Water Polo begin on or about August 2nd! Please note that this date is prior to the school start date.

Please complete summer vacations accordingly (usually by the end of July) if you are planning on trying out for these sports.  You WILL BE REQUIRED to be in town prior to the tryout date in order to tryout for FALL Sports.   If this is absolutely impossible, please contact Lynn Kercheval at
lkerchev@st-agnes.org before May 18 to discuss the possibility of a late tryout for freshmen due to unavoidable circumstances. You will receive specific information as to exactly what to do, where to report, what to bring, and who to meet for the fall sports tryout either in the summer mailing packet (comes out in June) or you may find it on the individual team pages to the left (on or about June 1st). Carefully review the information at that time.

Mandatory Participation forms

Bring the following completed forms (found on the left menu under 'Team Forms') to your tryout:
1.  Permission slip
2.  Transportation form
3.  Physical-A photocopy is acceptable.

* NEW* You may obtain a physical at St. Agnes on May 17, 20010 that complies with the school year 2010-2011. Please email lkerchev@st-agnes.org for details on physicals.

Once you make a team, additional forms will be necessary. When you make the team download the following forms and turn them into your coach.

1.  Athletic Policy
2. Uniform Contract
3. TAPPS Student Acknowledgement of Rules
4. $75 Athletic Fee (check made out to SAA)

Winter Season

The following sports teams are in competition during the winter season: Basketball, Soccer, and Swimming & Diving

Tryouts for Basketball, soccer and Swimming & Diving begin October 19th.  Basketball teams practice and play over the Christmas break.

Spring Season

The following sports teams are in competition during the winter season: Golf, Lacrosse, Softball, Tennis and Track & Field

Tryouts for Softball and Track & Field begin January 2010.  Tryouts for Tennis and Golf begin November 2009. The Softball teams are involved in tournaments on/around March 17 (spring break) each year.  Plan on playing softball over this weekend of spring break, starting on the Wednesday, preceding the tournaments.

Physicals

Please plan on obtaining a physical from your doctor over the summer and prior to any tryouts for any sports season.  This is especially true for all Fall athletes, but it makes sense to secure your physical should you be a winter or spring athlete only, as the physical will be required for you to tryout for any/all sports.

  • Freshmen athletes MUST have a physical in order to participate in sports at SAA.
  • Physicals are only valid for one calendar year, so it would be advisable to get a physical over the summer.
  • Please download the physician's form from the SAA website (click on team forms to the left).

Do not mail any physicals to St. Agnes that are specific to athletics.  Those must be brought in person to each tryout period, regardless of what sport --

  • (Fall/Winter/Spring).  Parents, hold onto those completed forms until your daughter's tryout dates.

Camps

Camps for Volleyball, Basketball, Water Polo and Soccer will be offered this summer.  Please refer to the team camps link to the left.

Information or Questions

Most of your questions can be answered by surfing the athletics pages.  Daily e-mail and voice mail retrieval will be available until May 30 for questions that cannot be answered by the website.  After May 30, coaches will be on summer vacation.  Coaches do not check e-mail/voice mail daily over the summer, if at all.
